Lewiston Maine Charged with Aggravated Assault

A Lewiston man is facing aggravated assault allegations after an early morning father’s day stabbing.  An assault is aggravated if (1) the victim suffers serious bodily injury; (2) the defendant inflicts bodily injury with the use of dangerous weapon; or (3) bodily injury to another under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life. Such circumstances include, but are not limited to, the number, location or nature of the injuries, the manner or method inflicted, or the observable physical condition of the victim.  Aggravated Assault is a class B crimes that carries a maximum possible sentence of 10 years, $20,000 and/or 3 years of probation.

LEWISTON — A Lewiston man is in serious condition and another is facing charges following an early morning stabbing in a Lewiston apartment.

Officials say 22-year-old Richard Edwards is in serious condition at the Central Maine Medical Center after he was stabbed about 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

Lewiston police say 34-year-old Rai’kuez Melchiorre, of Portland, is facing a charge of aggravated assault. Melchiorre was treated for a cut before being taken to jail.

WMTW-TV says the stabbing took place in a College Street apartment. Police did not say what sparked the incident.
