What is a felony

The distinction between felonies and misdemeanors vary from State to State.  In Maine a felony is any crime that carries a possible sentence of one year or more.   The sentence imposed does not have to be one year or more it just has to have the potential to be one year or more.  Murder, Class A, B, and C crimes are all felonies in the State of Maine.
